Bill Brown attended to the squeals and had them tamped down by the time Prez Johnny Murphy assumed the podium. Johnny sprung a surprise on the assembled membership. He announced that he'd purchased an unstarted Cirrus VK30 kit. The VK30 is a cabin class, conventional configuration aircraft, made of composites, but with a pusher propeller. The kit isn't being produced any longer because the factory is concentrating on producing a certified version of the design. John hasn't settled on an engine yet, but this 40-foot span, 3600-lb. gross aircraft requires lots of power. If you still have a Chapter card coming, get in touch with Ted or John Soukup. _________________________________________ 1997 Chapter 724 Young Eagles Day Tony Yacono, out Young Eagle Coordinator, says: "Our chapter will again host the Young Eagles Day. We still need both airplanes and pilots. We also need ground crew to control the kids while they are going to and from aircraft, to assist with taxiing and parking, and to help with other safety concerns. Note the following for this event: 1. Fuel will be paid for by Merritt Island Air Service and Mike Erdman Motors (Sutherlin & Toyota). 2. Oil will be furnished by Specialty Oil Company. 3. Quaker State Oil will donate two tickets to the Firecracker 400, which will be drawn for by pilots and ground crew. 4. Because the Young Eagles Program is a registered nonprofit organization, expenses incurred travelling to and from the airport should be tax deductible. 5. The Valiant Air Command will have a warbird on hand. 6. The Sheriff's Department will have a helicopter on display. Aircraft and fun must be furnished by us. Tell friends, groups, and clubs to come. This is a chapter event, so please assist. For more details, call Tony Yacono at 407-453-5388." __________________________________________ Dues- Dues - Dues This may be your last newsletter! It's last call time for dues. If your newsletter label has a red or pink dot on it, you are in arrears! Please see our Secretary/Treasurer John Soukup at the chapter meeting, or mail your $12 annual dues (cheap -- not raised in many years) to the Chapter Post Office Box on the letterhead. Make checks payable to EAA Chapter 724. Last call! _________________________________________ Valkaria Airport Mark Cannon of the Valkaria Aviation Association had been asking that as many local people as possible attend a County Commission meeting on May 20th to oppose the closing, the County Commission postponed the meeting (again) until July 15th. The meeting had already been postponed once before, on April 15th. Some county commissioners may already have made up their minds to vote for closing 09-27 at Valkaria, and perhaps the whole airport at a later date. Contact Mark at the Valkaria Aviation Association at 407- 724-8671, or the Valkaria Aviation Association by e-mail at airport@iu.net, for the latest developments. AOPA has offered VAA help in keeping this runway open. _________________________________________ Chapter Internet Site Did you know that Chapter 724 has an Internet Web Site? And an E-mail address (which forwards your note to your newsletter editor -- me)? Ron Cadby has set it all up for us. The site has an archive of past Chapter 724 newsletters going back to January 1996. It also has free classified ad posting for chapter members. Post that old whatsis you've had laying around in the for sale section -- it can't hurt. People outside of the local area pick up the site on the internet. Your editor has had an inquiry about the site in an e-mail from Michigan. You can also renew your membership there (see Dues -- Dues -- Dues, above). Contact Ron if you want to have your name appear as a site sponsor. The address for the Chapter 724 Web Site is: http://www.BeginAt.com/eaa724 Go check it out. You can contact Ron at his E-mail address at: rcadby@BeginAt.com _________________________________________ Local Homebuilder Plans World Tour Local homebuilder Al Pike, and his friend Leon Stoman, are planning a round-the-world trip with Stoman's recently completed Comp Air 6. They anticipate leaving Merritt Island in early July and flying around the world during July and August. The map posted on the project's Internet Web Page shows them flying up the east coast, taking the north Atlantic crossing route, flying south through western Europe, and down the west coast of Africa to South Africa, Stoman's home. From there they plan to fly part way up the east coast of Africa, then island hop over to India. From India, they will go to Singapore, Indonesia, and on to Australia. After crossing Australia, they will fly on to New Zealand, Micronesia, Hawaii, and back to the United States. Both men are experienced flight instructors. Stoman has previous transoceanic ferrying experience -- in a Cessna 150! For more information, call Pike at 407-454-9792. The Web Site for the tour is at: http://sportflyer.com/world_tour/ Comp Air kits are produced locally, next to Merritt Island, Airport, by Aerocomp, Inc., 407- 453-6641. _________________________________________ For Sale New King KX-155 Navcomm with KI-209 head. 760 channel com, 200 channel nav with glideslope, built in audio amplifier and intercom.
